First Week of Spring Season Happenings!

It has been a super busy couple of weeks for the RiverCity staff and students as we have completed our season-ending shows last weekend and started up our Spring Season this week. Tonight we start our next session of Pop Rocks, Saturday our Rockers Mix-Tape, Rockers Originals, and our newest Adult program for ages 19-29 called the Rebels on Sunday evening. You still have time to enroll so if you are interested, please contact us and we will get you enrolled.

Songwriting Workshop for Teens & Adults Starting April 15th!

SONGWRITING WORKSHOP (6 WEEKS)

Teachers: Connor Soejoto, &  Rebecca McDade 

Songwriting workshop for teens and adults ages 13 and up. Turn your song ideas into a finished product. Students will be instructed in writing, composition, and arrangement of songs and will record their own original works. Workshop cost: $199 for 6 weeks and will be on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Program begins Saturday, April  15th, 2017. Rebecca McDade 

Rebecca is a Scotland-born turned Oregon-native songwriter and folk musician. From a young age, Rebecca used music as a means of acclimating to the trans-national moves her family so often made; they may have jumped between countries often, but she could always find a home where there was music.

She spent much of her childhood performing in musical theatre. She initially took this up in Ireland and upon her arrival in Oregon in 2006, she became an active performer in Portland's theatre scene, eventually earning a Portland Area Musical Theatre Award (PAMTA) for Best Young Performer in 2008. She also has been performing with various choral groups from a young age.

However, writing and performing songs has always been a passion of hers. She picked up a guitar when she was seven years old and has been in love with it ever since. Now her specialty is in folk music. Rebecca has extensive performance experience both around Oregon and Scotland.  She has worked with Marv Ross and Gregg Williams of Quarterflashand was involved with a project featuring Peter Buck (R.E.M.), and Jenny Conlee and Nate Query (Decemberists). She thinks there is no better way to bring people together than with music and she is incredibly excited to be a part of the RiverCity team and share her passion with others who share it as well.

Rebecca is currently a senior at Oregon State University studying Psychology.

Teen Songwriting Workshop for Local Roots Music Festival

RiverCity Rock Star Academy is proud to be partnering with KMUZ 100.7 & 88.5 FMLocal Roots to showcase Salem's next generation of song writers and musicians. The Local Roots Music Festival will be on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Willamette Heritage Center Dye House. The Festival will feature 19 bands that have contributed to the Local Roots Compilation III. Among the artists performing will be 2012 American Idol top 24 finalist Haley Johnsen and Black Prairie singer/songwriter Annalisa Tornfelt. Kicking off the Local Roots Music Festival at 9:00 a.m. will be an extended set featuring our own RiverCity Rock Star Academy students performing their original songs.

In preparation for the Local Roots Music Festival we will be conducting a 6-week songwriting workshop for ages 13-18 that will allow students to turn their song ideas into a finished product. Students will be instructed in writing, composition and arrangement of songs and will record their own original works. Workshop cost: $179 for 6 weeks and will be on Monday evenings 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Program begins Monday January 11th, 2016. Registration Form  If you have a band and would like to register as a band please ask us about special pricing for this workshop.
