Rebecca McDade - Teacher

Rebecca McDade is a Scotland-born turned Oregon-native songwriter and folk musician. From a young age, Rebecca used music as a means of acclimating to the trans-national moves her family so often made; they may have jumped between countries often, but she could always find a home where there was music.

She spent much of her childhood performing in musical theatre. She initially took this up in Ireland and upon her arrival in Oregon in 2006, she became an active performer in Portland's theatre scene, eventually earning a Portland Area Musical Theatre Award (PAMTA) for Best Young Performer in 2008. She also has been performing with various choral groups from a young age.

However, writing and performing songs has always been a passion of hers. Rebecca picked up a guitar when she was seven years old and has been in love with it ever since. She spent her third year of university at The University of Glasgow, back in Scotland, where her love for the folk music of the American sixties first began to blossom. After two years of writing and recording a collection of demos both in Scotland and Oregon, her debut album was recorded at The Trench Studios in Portland in late 2017. However, her demos have garnered airplay on both sides of the Atlantic, most notably on BBC Radio Scotland. Rebecca has extensive performance experience both around Oregon and Scotland.  She has worked with Marv Ross and Gregg Williams of Quarterflash and was involved with a project featuring Peter Buck (R.E.M.), and Jenny Conlee and Nate Query (Decemberists).

Since the beginning of 2017, she has been working as a music instructor at Salem's Rivercity Rock Star Academy, and upon her graduation with a BA in Psychology from Oregon State University, she moved to Salem to continue teaching. She now instructs at Salem's Little Friends Montessori School as well as at RiverCity, and can be found performing frequently in Portland, Salem, and Corvallis venues.

She thinks there is no better way to bring people together than with music and she is incredibly excited to be a part of the RiverCity team and share her passion with others who share it as well.
