Royals Audition Information
RiverCity Royals Auditions
Jarred Venti - Royals Music Director
Audition Date: Monday, January 7th at 6:00pm
To sign-up for an audition time, complete the form below. The Royal Rockers (Royals) Performance Group is a skill and experience-based, audition-only program for advanced students aged 14-20. As a member of the Royals, students are ‘ambassadors’ for RiverCity Rock Star Academy and should represent the school at the highest level. Royals students must be self-driven, self-directed and able to learn challenging songs in a short timeframe.
Students of the Royals performance group will have a multitude of opportunities to perform at community and private events (which could average 2-4 performances per month), in addition to their own performance shows (mid-term and end of season) for family and friends. Although we realize students and families have other commitments and obligations, Royal students should commit to participating with the Royals through August 2019. This is important for consistent band structure, bonding with bandmates, perfecting songs, gig participation, etc. This program is designed to give students the experience of a real working band and to further excel their confidence and passion for music.
Students interested in the Royals performance group must audition (details about the audition below). Students may audition for bass, drums, keyboard, or vocal. A limited number of students will be selected based on knowledge and experience on their chosen instrument, as well as a positive attitude and enthusiasm for being part of this special group of performers.
Once selected for this program, students will learn and perform a vast catalog of material from various genres including rock, punk, metal, emo, grunge, blues, among others, and will regularly perform at special events throughout the greater Salem area. Students in the Royals performance group meet for weekly rehearsals Monday nights from 6:00-9:00pm, and additional agreed-upon rehearsal times as needed, as well as a weekly lesson on an agreed-upon day and time. Royals students are expected to attend and be on time to all rehearsals, performances and lessons, unless arranged with the Music Director in advance. Students must have available transportation to/from all rehearsals and to/from all performances. Students will be expected to be prepared to run through their songs each week. Royals must maintain a working knowledge of their songs and perform at scheduled shows as requested by the Music Director. Any student who misses more than one rehearsal or scheduled performance (after availability confirmed and commitment made) without previous agreed-upon arrangements with the Music Director, may be taken off a song or may have their chosen song cut.
As part of the Royals program, students are also required to attend a weekly private lesson for their main instrument/vocals (there is no additional cost for the weekly lesson). To participate in the Royals program, students should choose one the following enrollment options:
Students who have participated in four or more 12-week program sessions can choose the Royals program only at the Royals tuition rate.
Students who have participated in four or more 12-week program sessions can also participate in any of the three Rockers programs, with no additional tuition costs for the Royals program (Rockers program tuition rate applies only).
Students who have participated in three or fewer program sessions must also be enrolled in either one or more of the Rockers programs at the Rockers program tuition rate, however there is no additional tuition costs for participating in the Royals program (only Rockers program tuition rate applies).
Students that are no longer eligible for enrollment in the Rockers programs (age 19+) may be part of Royals at the Royals tuition rate.
Audition Date: Monday, January 7th, 2019, at 6:00pm, at RiverCity studios (2769 19th Street SE, Salem).
Students will be required to learn one song of their choice from the following options (see below) on their chosen primary instrument/vocals. This song will be performed with teachers on the other instruments, no accompanying track. All instruments heard in the recording may not be present at time of audition.
“PARANOID ANDROID” by RADIOHEAD (Suitable for drums, bass or vocal audition)
“DREAM ON” by AEROSMITH (Suitable for drums, bass, keyboard, or vocal audition)
“DR. FEELGOOD” by MOTLEY CRUE (Suitable for drums or vocal audition)
Students will be judged by a panel of RiverCity teachers on their performance, as well as preparation, skill, attitude, and adaptability.
Please reference original studio versions of these songs. On Our Spotify Channel.
Auditions for the Royals Performance Group is open to anyone (between ages of 14-20), including brand new students to RiverCity (please refer to enrollment options).
All those that audition, please come with three song suggestions that you would like to do with the Royals this season (songs that audiences might know are more likely to get picked).
