The RiverCity Rock Star Academy Student of the Week is...
OLIVIA PEREYRA!

Sophomore at Sprague High School
RiverCity Royals, and Rockers
Vocals & Guitar

When did you start playing music and why?
I've been singing since third grade and I just started guitar this year. I started choir because I saw my sister, Marlo in choir and just wanted to be like my sister. I also really enjoyed Hannah Montana and the thought of being a rock star was so cool to me.

What is your favorite song you ever played?
My favorite song I've done was ‘Working Man’ by Rush, ‘Sweet Leaf’ by Black Sabbath and ‘Foreplay/Longtime’ by Boston.

What do you like about RiverCity?
I love the creative energy that RiverCity has - everyone seems to have so much talent and skills when they are playing. It always makes me smile just watching the songs fall into place.

What is your favorite band right now?
I love Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine and Modern Baseball.

What other music projects are you working on?
I am not working on any side music products for the time being. Right now I’m focused on high school.

This program will focus on one legendary band in Rock and will meet every week to learn, study and perform a diverse catalog of songs written by that band. Students will be instructed and guided through the history of the band, the members and equipment they used. At the end of the 12-week program, the students will perform for their family and friends at a local venue. Rebecca McDade

Rebecca is a Scotland-born turned Oregon-native songwriter and folk musician. From a young age, Rebecca used music as a means of acclimating to the trans-national moves her family so often made; they may have jumped between countries often, but she could always find a home where there was music.

She spent much of her childhood performing in musical theatre. She initially took this up in Ireland and upon her arrival in Oregon in 2006, she became an active performer in Portland's theatre scene, eventually earning a Portland Area Musical Theatre Award (PAMTA) for Best Young Performer in 2008. She also has been performing with various choral groups from a young age.

However, writing and performing songs has always been a passion of hers. She picked up a guitar when she was seven years old and has been in love with it ever since. Now her specialty is in folk music. Rebecca has extensive performance experience both around Oregon and Scotland.  She has worked with Marv Ross and Gregg Williams of Quarterflashand was involved with a project featuring Peter Buck (R.E.M.), and Jenny Conlee and Nate Query (Decemberists). She thinks there is no better way to bring people together than with music and she is incredibly excited to be a part of the RiverCity team and share her passion with others who share it as well.

Rebecca is currently a senior at Oregon State University studying Psychology.
